Welcome to our staff picks series! Next up is Ruth, our Garment Technologist. Read on to find out a little more about Ruth and the Joanie pieces she’s loving right now.

We devised this staff picks series to give you a glimpse into Joanie HQ and the brilliant individuals that make up our small and passionate team!

Find out about the people behind our brand and their roles at Joanie, as well as the pieces they’re currently coveting from our collection.

Meet Ruth, Garment Technologist

Hi Ruth! Tell us about your role at Joanie - what does a typical day look like?

Hello! Well, I’m the Garment Tech here at Joanie, so I work with my Product Team colleagues to ensure the garments we produce are a great fit and of lovely quality. I’m the newbie on the team, and my focus is to extend the size range of our current offering from up to a size 22 to a size 26 and to work on our swimwear collection!

What’s the best bit about your job?

Being involved in fitting and creating these beautiful, sustainable, fabulous garments for customers to express themselves with.

Can you describe yourself in three words?

Wow, three words?! The pressure! Creative. Nurturing. Growing.

How would you define your personal style?

I would say my style could be summarised as 'casually fabulous,' haha! I love me some dramatic cat eye glasses, big hair, and a bold lip colour. I'm a curvy girl, I have big boobs, and I've had three kids in the last five years, so I dress to flatter what I'm rocking right now!

Sometimes I'm in dungarees with a mum bun and my tiny humans doing ALL. THE. THINGS., other times I'm 'big hair don't care,' colourful print maxi dress, and DM's. Always colourful - gotta have the colour.

Staff Picks: Ruth’s Favourites

I’ve picked out five of my favourite pieces available on the site at the moment – some of these I have already, and others are definitely on my wishlist!

Imala Floral Deckchair Print Short Sleeve Boilersuit

Have you seen the colours on this one?! It’s absolutely stunning. The colours are really sumptuous, and the fabric has a really nice feel.

Additionally, I love me a jumpsuit. Summer – sorted.

Lottie Floral Button Tea Blouse

This is a bit of me. I’d wear it with jeans and sneaks or sandals on a casual day. Love this.

Albertine Wonderland Floral Print Midaxi Dress

The print is amazing – the little faces in the flowers just really facinate me. The colours are really soft, pale pasels which I love. It’s beautiful. I would wear it exactly like this, and I could dress it up or down.

Horrockses Fashions X Joanie - Vada Paolozzi Print Sundress

Summer days mean organic cotton printed fabulousness. Love this with a cardigan or as-is - perfect for summer with sandals.

Cecile Gingham Square Neck Swimsuit

You didn’t think I was going to pick a top 5 without mentioning a swimwear piece, did you?! I could have picked MANY, but today, as I write this - Cecilie is speaking to me. I love that you can so easily throw on a pair of bottoms or a sarong, and it’s a new outfit. Standard-issue floppy hat and beach bag also necessary.
