Meet Laura, Freelance Designer

Hi Laura! Tell us about your role at Joanie - what does a typical day look like?

I work as a Freelance Designer, so when I am working with Joanie, I am here to support the amazing in-house Design Team on upcoming collections. My typical day can be pretty varied, which I love, but generally I can be found designing new garments for the range or working on print designs for upcoming projects.

What’s the best bit about your job?

I love being able to come into the office and work with the Joanie team. We always have some great inspiration to spark ideas- such as an extensive archive of vintage garments, sustainable new fabric developments and more mood boards than you can imagine! It’s an inspiring place to be, and there’s always something new and exciting to see every time I come in. It’s really thrilling seeing the final garments photographed when everyone’s hard work comes together.

Can you describe yourself in three words?

Creative Busy Mum.

How would you define your personal style?

I find myself often jealous of my toddler's wardrobe - I am always drawn to dungarees, dinosaur prints, space graphics and jumpsuits! I am expecting my second baby soon- so my current style is loose and empire line! I have been living in the Candi dress (sized up for my bump) for the summer - it's such an easy style to wear. Looking at my next purchases, I will be looking at breastfeeding-friendly clothing - button fronts, wrap styles, and layers will be my go-to for a while.

Staff Picks: Laura's Favourites

I’ve picked out five of my favourite pieces available on the site at the moment – some of these I have already, and others are definitely on my wishlist!

MacDougal Indigo Denim Long Sleeve Boilersuit

This shape looks good on everyone.  The denim has the perfect amount of stretch, so it’s going to be super comfy too.  There is a great cord version of this, and I know there are some exciting prints in this shape coming soon.

Finette Lightning Print Midaxi Tea Dress

This is a great dress that I would wear to a work meeting or an evening out. The print gives me glam rock Bowie vibes, which can never be a bad thing. Button fronts are a breastfeeding go-to, so this is a practical win for me too.

Piper Dinosaur Button Cardigan - Green

This is made of lovely organic cotton yarn, which feels really nice and cosy. The shiny dinosaur buttons really elevate this style - I love them!

Allegra Celestial Print Wrap Dress

I love a wrap dress, and a new version of this shape seems to find its way into my wardrobe every year. The Celestial print is very cool- galaxy space adventure-tastic!

Freida Sunflower Print Tea Dress

Sunflowers are my favourite flowers, and I love this print. The button-front tea dress shape reminds me of my teenage 90’s style idols.
