To celebrate the launch of the second Dawn O’Porter X Joanie collection, we’re diving into the inspirations behind the latest styles, from 1960s style icons and designers to Dawn’s favourite vintage pieces!

The second DOP X Joanie release is here! We’re so excited to finally be able to reveal our brand new collection designed in partnership with author, broadcaster, and Choose Love co-founder Dawn O’Porter. Much like the first collaboration, this limited release features styles inspired by some of Dawn’s favourite vintage pieces and icons of years gone by, particularly the 1960s.

Featuring twelve new styles, including retro knitwear and super-cool denim, this collection is inspired by 1960s fashion icons and designers, including Peggy Moffitt, Mary Quant, and André Courrèges.

My absolute style icon is Peggy Moffitt. She is American, so less known in the UK, but I love her. She had the Vidal Sasson five-point cut and worked a lot with Rudi Guernreich, so the photos of her are colourful and iconic. I actually have a life-sized poster of her and a badge with her picture on it that I wear on my denim jacket. What I love is that she still dresses the same way. Her closet is the one I would love to raid more than anyone else. She’s committed to her unique style for her entire life and looks as cool now as she did then. I love her.

The new collection features floral mini dresses, denim catsuits, and even some retro knitwear inspired by the 1960s style icons and "it girls" that Dawn says have shaped her personal style. Each item is once again named after one of her favourite cocktails, and the entire collection launches alongside a restock of bestselling styles from the first collection - so now’s your chance if you missed out the first time around!

I just think every woman should have a couple of cute '60s-style dresses that are easy to wear all year round and work for any occasion. I love the idea that something you can wear to work is also perfect for a party. Those cute '60s shapes will always be my favourite - I just think that because they represent an era where girls were set free and seemed to be having all the fun, it’s hard not to feel the same way wearing them. And then there are the cardigans which are pure heaven to wear. I’m desperate for winter so I can wear mine every day.

The decision to include vintage-inspired knitwear this time around was a conscious one - Woowoo and Cosmo are oversized retro knits that look just as cool layered over festival outfits in the predictably unpredictable British summer as they do with tights and jeans in the cooler months!

The ‘60s was a decade that encompassed huge global changes, and those changes led to some of the most enduring fashion trends that still dominate catwalks and the high street today. Dawn steadfastly believes that 1960s styles are popular for a reason - they’re universal and suit everybody, regardless of shape, size, or age!

Can you imagine the moment when women were allowed to get their legs out and feel that freedom? We can’t really imagine it because we have nothing to compare it to. But until then, women were dressed like wives. Nipped in waists, long skirts, nice and pretty and prim. The '60s was a sexy decade but still free-spirited and fun. It also looked to the future. The moon landing took the world by storm and inspired a space age aesthetic that still feels modern today. It was all so exciting. The likes of Twiggy and Mary Quant remain some of the biggest fashion icons of all time because '60s trends will never go out of fashion. I plan to be wearing cute short dresses well into my old age, so grab yourself one of these and join me.

Each of the twelve brand-new styles was created in close collaboration with Dawn, who cites Mary Quant and André Courrèges as two of her favourite vintage designers. Their influence on Dawn and the collection is plain to see, and the focus on mini dresses and optical prints in this range is inspired by these two pioneers of the mini skirt!

I love Mary Quant and André Courrèges. They were the pioneers of the mini skirts and the little shift dresses. These dresses are a nod to what they created. This collection is fun, easy, very wearable, and a little bit cheeky.
