Introducing rom-comcore - the ‘90s and ‘00s revival trend inspired by the wardrobes of some of our favourite on-screen heroines!

Rom-comcore is the latest throwback aesthetic taking TikTok and Pinterest by storm, and it’s easy to see why. After all, who isn’t looking for an excuse to dress like their favourite nineties-noughties-era rom-com character?

What Is Rom-Comcore?

Pinterest Predicts 2023 cited rom-comcore as one of the top emerging trends they expected to see grow in popularity this year, reporting a 235% increase in searches for ‘2000s girl’ and a 150% increase in searches for ‘Summer outfits vintage 90s.’

Following in the footsteps of other ‘90s revival trends like Barbiecore, rom-comcore dressing combines aspects of mainstream Y2K and ‘90s fashion popularised by the leading ladies of some of our favourite romantic comedies.

What sets rom-comcore apart from the other ‘90s and ‘00s trends that have been popular for the last couple of years is an emphasis on Main Character Energy - embodying this aesthetic means romanticising everyday life by dressing like you’re about to walk into your very own meet-cute at all times!

Everyday Rom-Comcore Styling Tips

Aside from finally having an excuse to dress like we’re in a Nora Ephron film, what makes rom-comcore one of our favourite emerging trends is the versatility that it offers. Key rom-comcore pieces include cropped cardigans, pastels, and lots of layers, making this the perfect trend to incorporate into your transitional spring wardrobe!

Bridget Jones, Bridget Jones Diary (2001)

A lot of the outfits Bridget wears could easily fall into the category of ‘frazzled English woman,’ an aesthetic that’s similar to rom-comcore, with a focus on messy layering and contrasting textures.

Knee-length A-Line skirts like Mim make the perfect wardrobe addition for anyone who wants to steal Bridget’s look, and our Ernie Pyjamas are great stand-ins for her iconic red PJs!

Vivian Ward, Pretty Woman (1990)

Julia Roberts is a '90s style icon in her own right, and no rom-comcore round-up would be complete without a nod to her character Vivian Ward's caramel polka dot midi dress from 1990's Pretty Woman.

Whether you're out shopping, heading to a polo match, or strolling around a museum, you're bound to feel like a pretty woman in Manon!

Regina George, Mean Girls (2004)

Head-Mean Girl Regina George proves that wearing pink isn't just for Wednesdays, and we've been coveting her collection of pastel pink knits and totally fetch slogan tees for years now.

Cropped cardigans are a rom-comcore mainstay, and our Eve Tee works as a perfect pink stand-in for Regina's infamous 'a little bit dramatic' slogan vest!

Kathleen Kelly, You’ve Got Mail (1998)

No '90s and '00s rom-com style round-up would be complete without mentioning Meg Ryan! If timeless staples and simple layers are your thing, You've Got Mail is here to provide some serious rom-comcore outfit inspiration…

Inspired by Kathleen Kelly's outfit in the opening scene of the film, Velma and Tana are a match made in '90s rom-com heaven!
