Our Goals
At Joanie Clothing, we are committed to sustainability and want to let you know what steps we are taking to become a more eco-conscious brand. With a focus on the use of sustainable fabrics, making improvements within our supply chain, and working to reduce waste, we want to make sustainable clothing that champions individual style.
We focus on slow fashion, aiming to give your style an element of timeless, vintage exclusivity and quality that will last. We are the antidote to the throwaway culture of fast fashion, and we truly believe that buying less, but buying better, will lead to a more environmentally conscious future for both our business and our fashion-loving customers. We work closely with our manufacturing partners to produce regular collections of new, unique styles in small quantities. You won’t see our garments on the high street, and we limit our production runs to minimise the chances of our products ending up in landfill. We don’t have all of the answers yet, but we hope that the information on this page will be useful in explaining the progress of our sustainability journey.

Choose the most environmentally responsible fabric/yarn
We plan to always choose the most environmentally responsible fabric or yarn for all products by the end of 2023.

All of our suppliers should be 4-pillar SMETA audited, incorporating a higher level of environmental audit.
Develop recycled cotton
We would like to develop recycled cotton - incorporating post-consumer waste sourcing of yarns & fabrics.

Our target for the end of 2021 was to have 50% of our range made up of sustainable lines. We beat this target and set an ambitious goal for 2022 to ensure that the number of items on our site made from a sustainable blend of fabrics would continue to increase!
Published our first Ethical & Sustainability statement
We continually re-evaluate our goals and standards, and where a sustainable alternative exists and is practical and attainable, we are committed to implementing it in the production of our garments. We publish as much information as we can, and regular updates can be found on our blog, including posts from Julia, our Sustainability Consultant!

Joined SEDEX
Every supplier we work with is signed up to and audited by SEDEX, and any new suppliers must also be members. A two-pillar audit is mandatory, and we hope to have most of our suppliers audited against all four pillars by the end of 2023.
Organic cotton dresses
In June 2021, we began to incorporate organic cotton into our wider product mix, launching a range of organic cotton sundresses. Organic cotton is more sustainable than traditional cotton because its production doesn't involve chemicals, fertilisers, or pesticides.

Code of Conduct
From day one, we established a forward-thinking brand manual that defines our expectations of our suppliers.
