Continuing our Eight Days of Joanie series, we meet another Joanie HQ-er; our Ecommerce & Marketing Manager, Katie! Katie wears our ‘Saturday Night’s Alright’ Samedi Jumper. Read on for her interview.
Got Saturday Night Fever? What do you look forward to most at the weekend?
I’m often travelling around at the weekend (the M6 and I are very well acquainted!) due to lots of my friends and family living in different areas. When I haven’t got anything planned, I like to stroll into the town centre close to my flat where there’s an amazing artisan market – I’ll usually start there with some food and an Aperol Spritz which regularly turns into more drinks in the bars nearby. Every good Saturday night is always followed by a lazy Sunday watching films, of course!
Tell us about your role at Joanie – what does a typical day look like?
My role is really varied and challenging so I’m constantly kept on my toes but I love the fast pace of fashion ecommerce and that a ‘typical’ day doesn’t really exist! When I’m not working on the website to ensure customers have the best possible shopping experience by managing the content, appearance and functionality on-site, I’m working on the marketing plan, plotting in seasonal product stories, email campaigns and conjuring up fun ideas with my amazing team! My job involves a lot of communication with our other departments, external agencies and within the team to ensure all of our trade and marketing plans work seamlessly and cohesively together.
What’s the best bit about your job?
Working for a smaller brand, I love seeing our plans take shape – right from sitting around the table with the team, chatting through weird and wonderful ideas, to executing them as a well thought-out, fully-fledged campaign. I also get a kick out of influencers I personally love wearing the brand as well as hearing lovely comments from customers. The Joanie Gals in the office deserve a mention too – working alongside such funny, interesting and strong women is a big plus point that I’m grateful of!

What’s your favourite way to wind down after a day in the office?
Watching documentaries about serial killers and eating Jaffa Cakes at home with my husband!
Can you describe yourself in three words?
Scrappy, thoughtful, complex…
What’s your Saturday night tipple of choice?
Either a pint of lager or a Porn Star Martini – there’s not much of an in between…
How would you define your personal style?
I’m pretty laidback with my look and you’ll usually find me wearing all black everything and trainers. If I’m going out, I’m a fan of a platform heel, full leopard print and a bold lip. I would say my style my style is somewhere between a 13-year-old skater boy and Bet Lynch.

Are there any style icons (past or present) that inspire you?
I’ve always been a huge fan of Debbie Harry from Blondie’s look. It’s the eclectic, edgy style and messy hair!
If you could go back and live for a day in any decade, which would you choose and why?
I have a real soft spot for the ‘80s and if I had to choose just one day, I’d love to go to a high school prom in wearing a huge puff-shouldered dress!
Finally, what Joanie pieces are you currently coveting from the new collection?
We hope you enjoyed our interview with Katie! The Samedi jumper is available now!
