Welcome to our staff picks series! Next up is Lucy, our Sustainability Champion. Read on to find out a little more about Lucy and the Joanie pieces she’s loving right now.

We devised this series to give you a glimpse into daily life at the Joanie office, and the brilliant individuals that make up our small and passionate team! Find out about the people behind our brand, their roles at Joanie, and the pieces they’re currently coveting from our collection.

Meet Lucy, Sustainability Champion

Tell us about your role at Joanie - what does a typical day look like and what’s the best bit about your job?

I started working for Joanie as a Production Assistant, but I've always been really interested in the sustainability side of the business, which led me to my current role - Sustainability Champion! In this role, I work towards the goals set in our annual Impact Report and look for new goals we can set for the future.

Sustainability is such a focus at the moment, it's exciting to see the momentum it's getting - there are new technologies and ideas popping up every day! I've already learnt so much in the last nine months in this role, and I'm excited to see where this goes.

Who is your style icon?

I don’t really have a specific style icon, I feel like I take elements from lots of people. I often watch videos on the Vogue YouTube channel and spot pieces I like - there was a brown jacket Lila Moss wore when she was in Paris that I’ve been searching for ever since I saw it! Often I get inspired by what I see, then go searching for it on Vinted, or I'll come up with a design to make myself. Pinterest is also a huge inspiration, I love how good the algorithm is for putting together things I like.

What are you watching or reading at the moment – do you have any recommendations?

Currently watching Race Across the World with my housemates - we spend the whole time fantasizing about all the places we want to travel to haha! I’m currently reading Less by Patrick Grant, a recommendation given to me by Joanie’s founder, Lucy. His perspective on the fashion industry is really interesting, it’s definitely given me a lot to think about with my own work at Joanie.

How would you define your personal style?

My style has a lot of natural influences - I tend to go for more natural materials and colours, and sage green is one of my favourites. I think my wardrobe has two extremes: the more expensive investment pieces and the pieces I get for a couple of pounds on Vinted or the charity shop! We’ve been talking a lot about cost per wear in the office at the moment, and I think this is definitely something I live by. Quality is also really important to me, I feel like you can really tell when something’s made well and with high-quality materials and it means you can wear them 100 times and they still look great!
