A Hollywood Romance with Style

The arrival of Frenchie in our new in section has got us very nostalgic about our favourite style influencing films. Take a trip to Hollywood with us as we delve into our ultimate movie looks.

Grease

The characters, the songs, the style. All memorable (for right reasons I might add!). Not many of us would admit to wanting to go back to high school, but if my years were spent randomly breaking out into classic movie tunes, I would definitely think about it! For years now, we onlookers have been in constant turmoil over whether we prefer ‘Good Sandy’ or ‘Bad Sandy’ – we have a lot of appreciation for that transformation and we can’t help comparing it to our midweek to weekend style switch. To be honest, the whole Grease cast provide their own style inspiration, the Pink Ladies’ uniform: classic.

Bonnie and Clyde

Stealing money never looked so stylish! Although set in the 1930’s, Bonnies’ wardrobe has such an iconic 70’s feel to it: the berets, tweed and fine knits are mostly to blame! She’s years ahead of her time. Bonnie’s attitude is also a contributing factor to her celebrated style – I mean talk about a resting b*tch face. Fun Fact: Kate Moss regards this film as her favourite, and we hope it’s to do with Bonnies’ flare!

Clueless

How could this film not have influenced our style in some way? Hello, Cher’s walk-in-wardrobe! Throw in her matching co-ords and mini dresses and we have ourselves a style icon! I bet there’s a fair number of us Joanie Gals that dreamed of being that stylish at 17… *day dreams about a series of fashion disasters from the age of 15-21*.

The Seven Year Itch

The Seven Year Itch as well as other things gave us Marilyn Monroe’s white halter neck dress. A dress so iconic that its been branded ‘the most expensive dress in Hollywood’: after it sold for $4.6 million dollars in an auction last year. Since its release, we’ve been dreaming of oozing half the amount of Hollywood glamour that Monroe manages: even with her skirt flying up! Which reminds us of a few embarrassing moments that happened last Christmas…

The Wizard of Oz

Dorothy’s ruby red slippers and gingham print dresses have been right on trend this season. She’s the reason to blame for you never being able to wear red shoes without your friend shouting ‘there’s no place like home!’ – but we love it. Those ruby red slippers have inspired many of us fashionistas, we just wish they could possess as much glitter as Dorothy’s.
