Product Details
We already know you’re gonna love this - we can read you like a book. The Estrella Tee is crafted from super-soft organic cotton and features an Art Nouveau-style book print provided by the Mary Evans Picture Library on a light pink background, short sleeves, a crew neckline, and a relaxed, boxy fit.
A note on the design:
Poster design by Paul Berthon (1872 – 1910) for the avant-garde French literary magazine, L’Ermitage, founded by Henri Mazel which ran from 1890 to 1906, coinciding neatly with the the Art Nouveau movement. The poster design was reproduced as a print in Maitre d’Affiches (Masters of the Poster), which allowed enthusiasts of poster art to own these designs as more manageable, collectable prints. Berthon’s iconic design was included alongside those of other great poster designers such as Alphonse Mucha, Eugene Grasset, Dudley Hardy and Jules Cheret (who conceived the idea of the Maitre d’Affiches series) and these smaller versions of original posters, circulated when Europe was in the grip of ‘postermania’, were highly prized.
Based in a converted church hall in Blackheath, south London, Mary Evans Picture Library has been supplying vintage imagery to a range of clients since 1964. Drawing from its vast archive of books, periodicals, prints, photographs and ephemera, it’s a treasure trove of the unique, the nostalgic and the unexpected, where pictures pave the way from the present day to the past.
