An interview with Jess who is a writer and blogger over at The Fat Funny One. Jess always empowers body confidence, she is a Mental Health Activist and Motivational Speaker. Jess runs the Fat Funny Book Club and as if that wasn't enough, she is also a Mum of two beautiful little girls, not to mention she is one of our gorgeous Joanie Gals! We couldn't wait to interview Jess and find out more about her.

Hey Jess! Firstly, could you introduce yourself to let our readers know a little about you and what you do?

Hey – My name is Jess and I am also known as the fat funny one! I started a blog a few years ago and have been sharing my self love and body confidence journey along with my mental health struggles in the hope to break stigma! Oh and I talk about my kids a lot – I have two girls, Isabella 1 and Sophia 6.

We know you love to spread body confidence and positivity – what would you say is the best way to do that?

For me it's leading by example and practising what I preach! I am constantly getting my kit off on the internet (haha) although I don’t believe that’s the only way to share the message, for me it is about showing others that not all bodies look the same.

You are a Mental Health Activist and struggle with anxiety yourself – what advice would you give to others in similar situations to you?

For me I practise mindfulness, meditate and always try and have some 'me' time. I take myself offline a lot too and disconnect from my virtual world, so I can focus on being present. Self care is an absolute must.

As a mum to two girls – what advice would you give gals growing up in the digital world?

The only detoxes you should have are digital ones. Ensure who you follow are wholesome, inspiring and positive people. We absorb so much of what we see and if that isn't positive then unfollow/block and delete if you need too!

What’s your favourite part of your job?

Which job? Haha. I feel like I have so many, mum, cleaner, chef, blogger & then I run a consultancy business too (in recruitment). I think my favourite part of all of them though is empowering other people. Whether it’s my team in the office, my daughters or women online.

We’re huge bookworms at Joanie Clothing – we know you have your own book club, The Fat Funny Book Club. What’s your favourite book of all time?

Yesss to books! I am such a book worm and adore reading – it is a massive part of my self care. Oh gosh – favourite book ever is HARD but probably Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman OR anything by Dorothy Koomson.

We love your style! How would you describe your look?

Anything that fits and makes me feel good! I am totally a 'comfort-over-style' sort of lady but also love trying new things.
