Joanie Gals, we know you can rock a red lip. But being dolled up the nines, especially on the 9-5 grind can take its toll. We have decided to re cap the benefits of going au naturel and encourage you to do the same. Let your natural beauty shine!

Your skin will thank you!

From our trusty blusher to our statement mascara, the number of harsh chemicals and toxins we sometimes unknowingly apply routinely to our face, can often be the cause of various skin problems. By forgoing our make-up must haves, we can actually help reduce such breakouts as well as evening our overall complexion.

You’ll knock back the years:

We often apply make-up to help us get rid of those dark circles and stop us looking drawn and tired. Over time, make-up tends to settle in fine lines and wrinkles and by applying copious amounts of foundation, we’re actually aging ourselves. A simple moisturiser high in SPF and Vitamin E, is really all you need for a lovely glow.

Baring all can be liberating:

There is a certain courage that is required to bare all. As women we’re often trying to portray a certain image, whether that be confident, attractive, effortless; it can be exhausting. Earlier this year singer songwriter Alicia Keys graced our screens with her flawless make up free complexion. Commenting on her transformation Alicia said "Women are brainwashed into feeling like we have to be skinny, or sexy, or desirable, or perfect ...Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn't put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?? What if they POSTED it??? These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking. And all of it, one way or another, was based too much on what other people thought of me." We can't help to think that this again, comes down to the pressures of social media.

A renewed sense of power and self confidence can come from simply showing our true self, flaws and all. Whether that be the simple act of going for a run make up free or popping the shops for milk, bed hair in tow.

Alicia mentioned a meeting with photographer, Paola, who convinced Alicia to let her take photos of her without make-up. Uncomfortable at first, Alicia agreed and said the pictures ultimately made her feel more comfortable in her own skin.
